This amazing coffee comes from the Aramo station near the village of Aramo located in the southern highlands of Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia.
Yirgacheffe region is a small but famous coffee region in Ethiopia. It is part of the larger SNNPR state in Ethiopia, which stands for Southern Nations and Nationalities People Region. The official name of Yirgacheffe is Gedeo but coffee buyers label it as Yirgacheffe.
In official terms, Gedeo is the zone , and Yirgacheffe is a smaller region within the zone. But all the ECX labels coffee from all over Gedeo as Yirgacheffe coffees. This is why coffee buyers within the industry often refer to Yirgacheffe when they are talking about Gedeo.
Like in most regions, coffee smallholders run the coffee market. You can find countless small plots, or coffee gardens, no more than 0.25 to 2 hectares upon the high mountains of the Yirgacheffe region. Besides the small farms, you will find washing stations where small holders deliver their cherries.
This coffee is from the Aramo station, which is privately owned with roughly 800 contributing farmers. Most farmers cultivate local heirloom varietals and harvest from plantations at an altitude of 1800-2000 m.a.s.l.
